Recently, I was asked at a networking event if my book, The Furnace of Leadership Development was only for firefighters. The answer is no. My book is written to those who want to develop their leadership skills and abilities regardless of profession, age, or status in life.
If you are taking the time to read this blog, then the book is written for you.
Questions to answer
Still not sure the book is for you? How would you answer the following questions?
- Do you feel your leadership skills don’t measure up?
- Have you been left with the impression that leadership is an easy path?
- Are you afraid to ask questions about leadership for fear others will think less of you?
- Are you prepared to lead others?
The firehouse kitchen table
Throughout my career in the fire service, I had countless discussions at the firehouse kitchen table. In my book, I take the reader through the front door of the firehouse, into the kitchen, and we sit down to discuss my leadership experiences and the lessons learned over a cup of coffee.
I address the challenges leaders face and wrote about:
- The pain and rewards of INTEGRITY
- The need for strong relationships to BUILD TRUST
- Why organizational MONSTERS are created
- EMBRACING the chaos of decision-making
- How to develop a leadership ACTION PLAN
- And much more!
Open, honest, and vulnerable
My personal library is filled with leadership books, and I have read countless magazine and journal articles on the topic. Many times, authors write about the mistakes other people make, but only portray themselves in a positive light.
I determined from the beginning to write about the good, the bad, and the ugly with my leadership experiences. You will read my high points and low points because I want the reader to learn from my mistakes and successes.
Dive into the furnace, become a leader with character, act when others won’t, and remember, “In the absence of leadership, decisiveness vaporizes, indecision rules, and talent walks out the door.”
